Anonymous asked:

Hey guys! At what stage of the process are you going to want a title for our fics?

Hey Anon!

As far as titles go, that is up to you, we don’t necessarily need a title at all until your final draft is submitted. If you provide a title to us when you submit your summaries for artist claims it will be posted with the summary. All summaries, if they have a title or not, will be numbered for easy artist claims, both for the artists and the mods here at dcjbb.

Thank you for the ask, if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us anytime!

I just wanted to address the concern about not having enough artists. While the idea of getting art to go with my work is great, I honestly sign up for things like this to give myself a deadline as much as for the art. It makes it more likely I'm going to finish a story, if I have a schedule.

That is fantastic! We know that there are a lot of authors that do this same thing. When you sign up for something with a deadline you feel the desire and drive to finish it on time. It can be a great motivator.

It is also so fun with these bangs to have art to accompany a story, to see what the author has created and then to see what the artist has created in response to the words. So we will be keeping the artist sign ups open in hopes that we get some more on board. If not we do have a few who are willing to do art for more than one story.

We hope that you are enjoying the DCJ Big Bang so far and really look forward to the story that you are creating.

I've not done much art before (my first real go in ages is being posted in the SPN AU Bang next week) and I'm already signed up as an author, but could I sign up as an artist as well?

Anon,

YES! Absolutely, you can. The only rule of thumb when you sign up as both Artist and Author is that you are not allowed to choose your own story to do the art for.

That’s it! So come join us and sign up as an artist if you are comfortable with it. We would love to have you!!!

I don't like seeing such few artists, lol, so I could sign up right now, and if you have enough artists later I'd be happy to drop out. :) Question is till when can I drop out, because I'd honestly love to create art but I am not sure if I'll have time, actually.

Anon, Thank you for the ask. We here at the DCJ Big Bang also don’t like seeing so few artists. Unfortunately that is the way it goes quite often with Bangs like this, especially since this is a rare pair that we are trying to make more visible and accepted. So we have to do our best and hope for the best.
One of the best ways to get the artists we need is to re-blog the posts where artists can see them and tag them where they will be found. This can be super helpful.

Now, you can absolutely sign up as an artist. Just keep in mind that if you do need to drop out as an artist the latest you can do so is before artist claims. Once you claim a fic we feel that you have made a commitment to that author. We understand that sometimes things do occur in life that prevent us from fulfilling commitments, but we hope that in the spirit of fun and fandom, everyone that signs up and commits can make it though.

If there is a timing issue, please come to us and we can discuss it. It isn’t the first time we have already had to handle an issue with the time line and moving forward and it may not be the last. We are here, talk to us. We will work with you.

I also feel that it is important to encourage everyone involved, artists/authors/betas, to only sign up for what you feel comfortable with. If you feel comfortable that you can complete a mega bang (write/art/beta) do it! If not, maybe start with a smaller one.

As far as artists go, I am aware of how much time and care can go into creating art, when you create for these stories there are three options,

Mini Bang: 1 piece of art
Big Bang: 2 pieces of art
Mega Bang: 3 pieces of art

I know that some artists have also said they are or may be interested in doing work for more than one story, if we don’t get enough artists we may take them up on that. Hopefully we will get more artists signed up though.
So be sure to pick one that you are comfortable that you can complete on time. Again, if there is a timing issue with something in your personal life we can work something out.
As always please remember:

As with every relationship, this one included, communication is key. Please do not hesitate to come to us, we will do our best to help you figure out the best solution to what ever issue there may be with the DCJ Big Bang.

theydraggedmein replied to your post “Right, stupid question time: Are you guys going to set up those who…”
It answers the question as far as betas go, but how about the artist-part!?

Apologies, @theydraggedmein, when we posted this we missed the artist part and focused solely on the beta.

All authors will submit summaries which must include: rating, all archive warnings, major tags, and a description of the work. Any explicit/major side pairings should also be listed.
After all authors submit we will post the summaries for artists to view. We do this without revealing the author so it gives everyone a chance to possibly work with someone they don’t know.
The next day artist claims open. The artists will fill out and submit a form with their first five choices of fics they’d like to create art for. It is first come first serve, so the sooner you submit your choices, the better chance you have of getting your first choice.
As the claims come in we will update which ones have been claimed and send out emails to the artists and authors to inform them who they will be working with. Art claims will stay open until all fics are claimed. Some artists have expressed interest in possibly doing more than one fic, that is fine, as long as the deadlines are still able to be met
It is up to the author and artist at this point to open a line of communication for creating as they move forward. Remember, as with any relationship, the one between author and artist/beta included, communication is key

We hope that this answers the rest of your question. If you need further clarification please let us know, we love to hear from you and want to do our best to make this fun, we can only do that if we make sure that all questions are answered.

Remember: communication is key!

theydraggedmein asked:

Right, stupid question time: Are you guys going to set up those who sign up as authors with betas/artist?

No stupid questions! Promise.

As far as betas go the authors are free to find a beta for their work however they wish. We won’t assign betas to authors.
If they need help finding a beta they will have access to the list with all the beta’s that have signed up and they can contact them directly and work it out with them.
We do this so that authors and betas will be better matched. Even if given a summary of their fic with tags, the author is the only one that truly knows what is going on in the story, we don’t want to assign betas only to find out that the author put in a squick or trigger the beta may have forgot to mention.
By taking it into their own hands the authors and betas have a better chance of finding a more suitable match for their story and we avoid the possibility of a beta regretting signing up or even dropping out.
We truly do not want that to happen because we want this to be fun and enjoyable for every participant involved.

We hope tat this answers your question. If not please let us know and we will be happy to clarify further.

For draft sumbissions, in addition yo the summary and tags and things, can we just submit a link to the google docs page where we are working on it?

Alright, so... I'm signed up as a writer, my friend isn't. I'm not sure if they're going to sign up, or even collaborate with me, but... I'm still in the process of convincing them. ;) But they're not signed up. So I can't submit a collabed fic with them, am I right? Thank you for making this bang happen! c:

Yes, if you wish to collaborate with someone they do not have to be signed up with us, you can just go off Anon and send a message/ask or an email and let us know who you are and who they are and that you are doing a collaboration. As long as we know it is a collaboration as soon as possible and most definitely before artist claims.

We are excited to see what you write. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us.

Anonymous asked:

What if our fic is more than 5k but less than 15k would it still be considered a mini bang or does it need to be exact?

To be fair to all writers and artists, once your fic hits 15k or more it will be considered a Big Bang. Same goes for Big Bangs, if they hit or go over 50k they will be considered a Mega Bang. You will have a chance to upgrade/downgrade with check ins. If your word count changes after artist claims you must be sure to keep in contact with your artist.

Please remember that communication is the foundation of all good relationships, that includes the one with your artist. It is best to have a good idea before artist claims what your story will end up as. We all know though that sometimes things get away from you and when you plan an 8k fic it ends up being 15k+ so it is okay, as long as you communicate with everyone involved.

We hope this answers your question. If not feel free to send another ask.

anon asked: IF I’VE GOT A COMMISSIONED PIECE OF ART FROM SOMEONE CAN I USE IT FOR ONE OF MY DCJBB FICS?

So the admins have talked and decided that since part of Big Bangs is collaborating with others, any art you’re incorporating into your fic should be from artists who have signed up for the bang.

HOWEVER… commissioned art is of course welcomed (even encouraged) for secondary fics i(i.e. if you plan on writing more than one fic).
