Forgive me for being slow... but I saw the beta list email and was wondering... what am I supoosed to do with it? I'm an author, so do I just randomly ask one of them to beta for me? How do I know if someone's already asked them?? HELP

Anon, this is not an unusual thing, especially if you are a participating in a bang for the first time.

We do require your story to beta’d. We do not require you to use the list provided. That is there for you to use if you want to.

If you choose to use one of the people on the beta list go through the list and take notice of the rating of fic that they are willing to beta, then look at the list of things that they provided that they will not beta (such as A/B/O or non con, or major character death, etc) and find someone that is compatible with the story you are writing.

Once you locate one or two people get their preferred contact info and shoot them a message telling that that you got their info from the beta list for the dcjbb and were wondering if they were able to beta. They should let you know if they can or can’t, if they can’t, wash rinse, repeat!

We hope that this has been helpful if you still have questions do not hesitate to talk to us. Send us another ask or even an e-mail. Remember, communication is key!

So, I was going over the rules again and noticed the first author chek-in is feb 10th and I was wondering: Do we need a beta at that point? and on the subject of betas, I would like one if you got one hidden somewhere :)

Excellent question. The time in which you get a beta is truly up to you. Just keep in mind that everyone works at a different pace so be sure they have plenty of time to look over your entire fic and you have time to implement changes you want from their suggestions. Having a beta by check in time, although recommended, is not mandatory.

We just sent out an e-mail to all authors with a list of the betas that signed up. Feel free to take a look and contact one that would be compatible to your story.

All authors: If you did not receive the e-mail that went out today with the beta list please let us know.

If you have any further questions please contact us. Remember, communication is key.

Are you planning on creating an AO3 collection for us to add our fics to? I hope you do, I think it's a great way to keep everything together instead of just the tagging system.

Oh yeah, in fact it was the second thing that was created after the blog but before this thing was every mentioned to anyone (including the other two mods) because this mod was super excited about it all and thankfully didn’t get ahead of herself.

The DCJ Big Bang collections for 2017 on Ao3. So the authors can add it to DCJBigBang2017 for everyone to be able to find easily.

We will be sure to include this information in posts as a reminder the closer we get to posting. Thank you for your ask!!

Should I assume if I haven't gotten an email yet that I haven't been selected to beta?

Apologies Anon, we have been busy and have not been able to get the e-mail confirmations out to betas. They will be sent out in the next 24 hours.

As far as being selected to beta goes, that is up to the authors. We will be sending the authors a link to the list of everyone who has signed up to beta so that if they choose to they can take a look at everyone and their squicks/triggers/preferences to find a beta that would be a good fit for their story.

If you signed up as a beta you can rest assured that you are on the list and may be contacted. We are not pairing beta’s and authors in case there is something in the story that we are unaware of that would not go over well with the beta.

Thank you for your ask, your patience, and your understanding.

Anonymous asked:

I was wondering if I sign up to make art for stories, can I make art on paper and upload a picture or is it limited to digital art?

Thank you for your question Anon!

If you sign up to do art, you absolutely can do it on paper. You can create it however you wish, it just needs to be uploaded (scanning is usually the best option) to be presented online.

The art creations are not limited to digital. If you do a podfic, or video, or something similar then the best option, we believe, is to do it digitally rather then trying to convert it.

By all means though, if you sign up as an artist, don’t feel obligated to create only in digital!

Beta’s

Those of you who have signed up as a beta for the DCJ Big Bang will be receiving an e-mail today or tomorrow confirming that you are signed up as a beta. Please keep an eye out for it!

Authors: If you are in need of a beta and wish to have one that has signed up specifically for this bang we will be sending out an e-mail with a link to our list of beta’s so that you can take a look and find someone that is compatible with your story and contact them.
We were going to post a link for ease of access but feel it is better to keep it private in the case that one or more beta’s would not like their e-mail address shared publicly.

theydraggedmein asked:

I'm gonna ask you a question that stems from the fact that I've never participated in a Bang before, and English isn't my first language: Is it the artist that choose a fic to 'art' (I'd have written 'draw', but then I realized art wasn't limited to that, it's not meant as disrespectful towards the artists) for or is it the author who choose an artist?

Your first bang! Congratulations. We are honored that your first one is with us and the Dean/Cas/Jimmy ship.

As far as the artist claims go. The authors will submit there info to us on February 21, 2017 (does not have to be a complete draft for more info please see the schedule), and once we have received them all we will make a post that is available to the artists.
They have a day to look them over and decided which story they would like to create art for. The next day the artists are the ones who submit a form to us to let us know their top five choices. Once fics have been claimed we will inform the author and artist who they are paired with and they can contact one another and go from there!

We have the artist pic the story (without knowing the author) so that they will be able to pick a story that won’t have any squicks or triggers for them. That is the reason that we ask the authors to provide as much information as possible when submitting summaries for artist claims.

We hope that this answers your question. If you need any further clarification don’t hesitate to ask! Communication is key!

Sorry in advance for the potentially stupid question. Should I have an *entire* rough draft completed by the 21st of February? 50%? 75%? What’s expected percentage wise in the schedule isn’t clear to me.

This question was submitted by an author when they signed up for the bang. We are sorry for not clarifying for you about the drafts, we will go fix that.
Summaries are due on February 21, 2017 and  must include: rating, all Archive Warnings, major tags, and a description of the work. Any explicit/major side pairings should also be listed
We also include that drafts are to be sent to us at the email (dcjbigbag at gmail) as far as the completion of the fic.

Ideally the author would have as close to 50% of the rough draft finished by this point since final drafts are due on April 1, 2017.  However we recognize that all writers have their own way of writing a fic. If any of the authors are worried about their fic at this point, just talk to us. We are flexible and willing to work with everyone. This is supposed to be fun for everyone involved.

If you don’t have 50% of your fic done by that point, submit your summary and draft anyway, as long as you are sure that you will have your final draft complete by April 1, 2017.

Again, we are always willing to work with everyone. We can not stress enough the importance of communication here. If there is something that you are worried about, or have a question about and can’t find it already answered in the FAQ tag, ask us, on or off anon. We will always get back to you.

Remember: As with every relationship, this one included, communication is key. Please do not hesitate to come to us, we will do our best to help you figure out the best solution to what ever issue there may be with the DCJ Big Bang.
